After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, Kyoto University, Professor Osafune worked as a nephrologist for four years. Subsequently, he obtained a Ph.D. in Science from the University of Tokyo in 2003 and conducted research at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. In June 2008, he joined the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA), Kyoto University, and has continued to contribute to the advancement of iPS cell research as a professor at the institute since October 2014. He is a founder of Rege Nephro and has served as a Member of the Board, Chief Scientific Advisor since its establishment.
